About Jeffreys Bay

Jeffreys Bay, known worldwide simply as J-Bay, owes its fame to Supertubes, a right-hand point break widely rated among the finest waves on the planet and the regular host of a World Surf League Championship Tour event. What began as a small fishing and holiday settlement on the Eastern Cape's Sunshine Coast has grown into a surf-industry town, with board shapers, wetsuit brands and surf schools built up around the point since the 1960s. The town sits where the Gamtoos and Kromme river systems meet the Indian Ocean, giving it a run of beaches beyond Supertubes, including Kitchen Windows and Magnatubes, that draw surfers year-round. Neighbouring St Francis Bay, with its canal estate and lighthouse, is often treated as part of the same coastal community.

Jeffreys Bay's spring calendar still leans on markets and weekly specials, but Dairy Fest 2026 takes over the Ferry Hotel in Gamtoos for a two-day run this week. The festival spins off its own sideshows too, from the beach-ready Surf Boertjie at Dairy Fest to the live set Nedbank DairyFest: Jakkels Vibes. Comedy gets its own night with the WhoselinePE Improv Comedy Spectacular, and homebuyers can browse Properties on Show in Jeffreys Bay and Surrounds the same weekend. Between markets, bistro specials and this one big festival weekend, J-Bay keeps its mellow coastal rhythm.
