Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This policy explains, in plain language, what Events in SA does with information. Events in SA is an events directory covering Pretoria, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha and Bloemfontein.
1. Who we are
Events in SA is operated by Albert Bredenhann as an individual. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), he is the responsible party and acts as the information officer for the site.
You can reach us through the contact page. That is the right place for questions, corrections and privacy requests.
2. What we collect
General visitors. We do not ask you for anything to browse the site. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which typically include your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. These are used for security and reliability, not to build a profile of you.
Theme preference. Your light or dark mode choice is stored in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers.
Event submitters. If you submit an event we collect your name, your email address, the event details and any poster image you upload. We use this to review, check and publish the listing, and to contact you if something is unclear. The event details become public once published. Your name and email address do not appear on the site.
Contact form users. We collect your name, email address, chosen subject and message, and use them only to respond to you and to keep a record of the request.
Administrators. Site administrators sign in with an email address and password through our authentication provider. This applies only to people who run the site, not to visitors.
3. Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display adverts on this site.
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may opt out of some third party vendor cookies at www.aboutads.info/choices.
- More detail on how Google handles data on sites that use its services is available at Google's privacy and terms page.
4. Cookies and local storage
- Theme preference: stored in your browser's local storage so the site remembers light or dark mode.
- Authentication: essential cookies and local storage used only when a site administrator signs in. Ordinary visitors never receive them.
- Google advertising cookies: set by Google and its partners as described above.
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear local storage in its settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop you using the site, although you may see less relevant adverts.
5. Third parties who process data
- Lovable hosts and serves the website.
- Supabase provides our database, file storage for poster images and administrator authentication.
- Google AdSense serves the adverts.
These providers operate infrastructure outside South Africa, so information handled by the site may be processed or stored in other countries. POPIA requires us to tell you this.
6. Links to other sites
Ticket and information links take you to third party ticketing and venue websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies and their own cookies, which we do not control. We do not sell tickets ourselves and we do not receive your booking details.
7. How long we keep things
- Event listings are kept while they are relevant to the directory and for archive value.
- Event submissions and contact messages are kept while they are needed to run the service and to keep a record of what was published or requested.
- Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period, for security and reliability only.
You can ask us to delete your submitter details or a contact message at any time.
8. Your rights under POPIA
If we hold personal information about you, you have the right to:
- ask what information we hold and get a copy of it,
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete,
- ask us to delete it, where we are not required to keep it,
- object to how we use it.
To exercise any of these, use the contact page and pick "Data request under POPIA". We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have handled your information badly. Their details and complaint forms are at inforegulator.org.za.
9. Children
This site is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
When the site changes, we update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted on the page for a while. Please check back now and then.
This policy is published for transparency and is not legal advice. It describes what the site does today to the best of our knowledge. The operator should have it reviewed by a qualified professional before relying on it for compliance purposes. We make no claim of certified POPIA or GDPR compliance.
