Boksburg is an East Rand town in Gauteng that emerged in 1887 during the gold rush that transformed the Witwatersrand, and its name honours one of the mining officials involved in laying out the original township. The gold industry has since given way to a broader manufacturing and logistics base, helped by the town's position close to OR Tambo International Airport and along the N12 and N3 corridors. Boksburg Lake, laid out in the early twentieth century, remains one of Gauteng's oldest public parks and a local landmark for walking, fishing and boating. The town also has a well-established Portuguese-South African community and is home to conference venues such as the Birchwood Hotel, which regularly hosts national conferences and expos.
Boksburg's late-August lineup starts with the Heartbeat Conference 2026 at NBCFC, drawing crowds across the weekend. Runners get two dates back to back, with the Sat 19 Sep Significance Run Boksburg Gauteng 10km 5km through Running Gauteng followed a few weeks later by the Sun 11 Oct Tommy Malone Race Boksburg Gauteng 15km 5km. Music and worship combine at AGS iLumen Boksburg when Visie Fees 2026 saam met Demi Lee Moore takes the stage in September. Hairdressing professionals, meanwhile, can head to Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre for the Intercoiffure SA National Congress later that same month.
