About Ballito

About Ballito

Ballito is a fast-growing resort town on KwaZulu-Natal's Dolphin Coast, roughly 40 kilometres north of Durban, where sugar cane fields have steadily given way to beachfront estates and lifestyle centres over the past two decades. The town takes its cue from the Indian Ocean at its doorstep: long sandy beaches, tidal pools and reliable surf breaks at spots like Willard Beach and Thompsons Bay draw both holidaymakers and a growing permanent population. It sits on what tourism bodies call the Dolphin Coast, named for the bottlenose dolphins regularly seen offshore, especially during the annual winter sardine run. Ballito borders the upmarket Zimbali Coastal Resort and has developed into the commercial hub of KwaZulu-Natal's North Coast, anchored by malls such as Ballito Junction and the Lifestyle Centre.

Wine and food lovers can start the season at the Tops at Spar Ballito Village Wine Festival, before the town shifts into full festival mode with the Ballito Family Fest and the Wozza Rhythm & Roots Music Festival both happening the same weekend. Rock and roll fans have a treat in store with Elvis & The Legends: The Story of Rock & Roll bringing a tribute show to the coast. Business travellers, meanwhile, can look to the Emerging Property Developers Summit 2026 for networking and industry insight. With festivals, live music and conferences all on the calendar, Ballito stays lively through spring.
