Bela-Bela, known as Warmbaths until 2002, is built around a natural hot mineral spring that has drawn visitors since the nineteenth century, when the site was declared a resort under Boer republic rule. Its name means "boiling boiling" in Sotho, a reference to the warm water still piped into resorts such as Forever Resorts Warmbaths and ATKV Klein-Kariba today. The town sits on the N1 north of Pretoria and serves as a gateway to the Waterberg, a mountainous, malaria-free bushveld region known for game farms and biosphere conservation. Tourism and agriculture, particularly citrus and game ranching, anchor the local economy alongside its long-standing reputation as a spa and wellness destination.
Families visiting Bela-Bela this month can make use of the Warmbaths Day Visit - August 2026 package at Warmbaths A Forever Resort, running right through to month-end. The town's Afrikaans cultural calendar peaks with ATKV Afrikiti Klein-Kariba over the last weekend of August, shortly before delegates gather for the Annual PARSA Conference. Mountain bikers then descend on Zebula Golf Estate & Spa for the Zebula Wild Ride Weekend in mid-September, and community spirits gather a week later for The SunSet Fiesta at the Bela Bela Community Hall. Car boot sales, markets and smaller shows continue to punctuate the Waterberg social calendar throughout spring.
