Polokwane, formerly known as Pietersburg, is the capital of Limpopo province and functions as the main gateway between Gauteng and both the Kruger National Park and South Africa's northern borders. The city made history in December 2007 when it hosted the ANC's 52nd National Conference, the meeting that elected Jacob Zuma as party president, and it later hosted matches at Peter Mokaba Stadium during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
