About Polokwane

Polokwane, formerly known as Pietersburg, is the capital of Limpopo province and functions as the main gateway between Gauteng and both the Kruger National Park and South Africa's northern borders. The city made history in December 2007 when it hosted the ANC's 52nd National Conference, the meeting that elected Jacob Zuma as party president, and it later hosted matches at Peter Mokaba Stadium during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Unusually for a South African city, it has its own game reserve, the Polokwane Game Reserve, within its municipal boundaries, alongside the Bakone Malapa open-air museum showcasing Sotho culture and heritage. As Limpopo's administrative and commercial hub, it draws in trade and travellers from the surrounding farming and mining districts.

Polokwane's spring lineup opens with runners tackling the Seshego Marathon 2026 this week.
