About Hartbeespoort

Hartbeespoort grew up around the Hartbeespoort Dam, completed in 1925 on the Crocodile and Magalies Rivers and unusual for having a wall built in Roman Triumphal Arch style, modelled on Paris's Arc de Triomphe. The dam and surrounding resort towns sit within the Magaliesberg range, reckoned among the oldest mountain ranges on earth at some 20 million years and now a World Biosphere Reserve, forming part of the wider Cradle of Humankind UNESCO World Heritage Area. The Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway, South Africa's longest mono cableway, carries visitors up to a paved summit walkway with views over the dam. Close enough to Gauteng for easy day trips, the area has built its identity around water sports, hiking and mountain views.

Hartbeespoort's dam-side nightlife kicks off with the Tropical Cruise Party, while 360 degrees hosted by Silly Bean brings a two-day gathering to Legacy on the dam. Food and drink fans can head to OAKS Oktoberfest at The Oaks Restaurant, and the AFRO HOUSE PARTY turns Damdoryn Tops into a two-day dance floor. Golfers round out November with the 2026 SASFA Golf Challenge at Magaliespark Country Club.
